SSI benefits are available for both adults and children. These benefits are intended for those who meet the following criteria:
  • Receive a low monthly income as determined by specific SSA guidelines, and
  • Are age 65 or older, blind or disabled
Your "income" for purposes of qualifying for SSI benefits includes wages, other government benefits and pensions. If you receive food or shelter, the value of these items is also included in your income calculation.
